Life After Boards: Joan Marielle J. Pilapil, RPm

“No guts, no glory.”

This is the official life philosophy of Joan Marielle J. Pilapil, or Maye, and she has embodied this well when she took and passed the very first Board Licensure Examination for Psychometricians last 2014. A BS Psychology graduate of San Pedro College of Davao City, the 23-year-old sports and travel enthusiast currently works as a Human Resource Specialist in a BPO company.

One factor why Maye took the board exam is to have the extra three letters after her name. Another factor was some of her friends and batch mates in college also decided to take the first board exam. Reviewing for the various subjects was a challenge for her, for she was also juggling her work as HR personnel. But she did not let her this hinder from preparing for the board exam. In her free time, she would read her notes, and sometimes review them when eating out in a fast food chain. Maye also attended weekly review classes offered by her alma mater. Maye pointed out that Psychological Assessment was the most challenging subject and that its difficulty added up to her anxiety while waiting for the results.  But instead of wasting her time worrying, Maye focused her job and bonded with her friends.

It was on the evening of November 4, 2014 when she learned that she has passed the boards. When asked about what she felt when she saw her name on the list of passers, Maye said she was “overwhelmed! Wala ko nag-expect! After sa board exam, especially sa psych assessment, wala nako nag-expect na maka-pasa ko.”

(I did not expect [to pass]! After the board exam, especially on Psych Assessment, I did not really expect that I will pass.)

Maye stated that passing the board exam and having a license is an edge on her current job as an HR Specialist. She has stated that her current company plans to utilize psychological tests to assess applicants and employees, and that she will be the one to oversee these tasks in the future.

Maye is keen to learn more about the field of Human Resource and plans to have a psychological testing center in her hometown, General Santos City. With her guts and her attitude, Maye is determined to pursue her dreams and make them come true.

Starting today, we will have a weekly feature named "Life After Boards," stories of Registered Psychometricians after passing the Board Licensure Examination for Psychometricians. These stories aim to inspire future Registered Psychometricians to pursue on their goals, both professional and personal, and utilize their knowledge and skills in Psychology for the greater good.

FOR FUN: ADVICE PARA SA MABABANG MARKA

Gusto ko lang ibahagi ‘yung alam kong baka makatulong sa inyo.

Nagpamidterm kasi ako noong nakaraan, marami nakakuha ng mababang marka. So, syempre concern ako.

Garantisado yan!

Status of Repeaters for the 2015 BLEPsychometrician

Further processing the result of the BLEPP 2015 we took a look at the status of 2015 Repeaters. We took into consideration those schools with repeaters having a total of 6 and above examinees. There were several schools with a total of 5 repeater-examinees but they were not considered for this data.

Our list above has a total  109 repeater-examinees from different schools with 6 and above examinees (the highest number is 20).  A total of 50 repeaters (49%) from the list passed and 59 (58%) failed anew.

It should be noted that a mere 20% of those who failed in 2014 were repeaters for 2015 just from our data above. But it can be assumed that the percentage of repeaters is generally  much more lower given that those with 5 and lower number of examinees were not taken into account for this table.

Ateneo de Davao University and Saint Louis University got 71.43% repeaters passing for 2015. Far Eastern University got 58.33% and both New Era University and Our Lady of Fatima - Quezon City both got 50% passing rate.

With 20 examinees, New Era has the most number of repeaters who took the BLEPP 2015, followed by FEU with 12 examinees and De La Salle - Lipa with 11 examinees. It is unfortunate for the University of the Assumption that nobody passed from among its 6 repeater-examinees.

Post for the 2nd Anniversary of the Philippine Psychometrician Reviewer FB Page

Today is the 2nd Anniversary of our Philippine Psychometrician Reviewer FB Page. Two months ago, last June 12, this blog also celebrated its 2nd year anniversary since it was established ahead of its FB counterpart.

To mark the milestones of this blog  and the FB page (currently with more than 9K likers) we are sharing here the result of the survey we conducted to assess and evaluate primarily our FB Page. We are interested to get the feedback of our readers and likers so we will know also on how and what to improve.

To all our likers and those who took time and effort to answer this survey Maraming Salamat po.

Demographics of  Survey Respondents

Majority female and mostly in their early 20's as we have consistently gathered from previous survey results.

Most of the respondents are newly graduate 2014 to 2015.

Contrary to previous data, result here shows that most respondents availed the services of review centers.

Majority of the respondents took the BLEPP 2015 and mostly first timers with some who were repeaters.

Knowledge and use of the Blog and FB Page

The FB page was found through tags or shared link of their friends and some through the use of search engine. But it should also be noted that some came to know about this page through offline - word of mouth introduction.

Most of the respondents just came to know of the FB page less than 6 months while the rest have known it for more than six months and others for more than a year.

Coverage and Personal Engagement

In previous survey Psychological Assessment was the identified  most difficult subject, so result shows that it is the same subject that should have more coverage for the FB page online review.  As to respondents engagement it is the thumbs up - Like button that is commonly used and more than half shared those updates that they liked to their wall/ and or shared or tagged their friends.

It is interesting to note that despite the social nature of FB only  a few are posting their comments to the posted links or updates. Many would prefer liking and some would just lurk perhaps. One of their reasons is just they have nothng to share Although  a few would share the posts they see on our FB page update wall.

The often repeated similar questions we got on our inbox/PM and comments is due to the fact that some are  not backtracking previous discussions. Few would bother to click the links that leads to our blog and other web pages or  back track read on previous questions or concerns that have been addressed.

Rating and Score Card of Philippine Psychometrician Reviewer's  FB Page

Majority of the respondents are familiar with the the purpose and goals of the blog and FB page.  And the same majority claims that they have benefited from the FB page. With a few who claims they did not benefit - as noticed some of the respondents came to know about the page less than 6 months they are the minority who have not fully benefited from the  FB Page.

Our FB Page earned a high  score on the relevance of the content of the page and also high score on the timeliness of our posts.

We also score high on the reliability of our posts and update since we really sees to it that we get direct from the source of those who are informed or those who have gone through the experience. Also we try our best to crowd source for answers when we do not have answers. Although the score is high but there's an observation for the need to make the postings/coverage more balanced.

One of the most consuming aspect in maintaining the FB page is to individually respond to Private Messages (PM) that we received in our inboxes. But we are thankful for those questions since they become our new posts or update on our walls and sometimes our inspiration for new blog posts. We still rate high as to the general announcement that gets posted. We do make effort to call and pay visit  PRC as well as find out from other contacts and network  to get more accurate information.

We do try our best to be humorous as well and it shows our scores are still  high. But this is another area we need not be too serious.  And we got a bit low score on the announcement of related events and training seminars. For that reason we have come out with another FB page particularly attuned at providing information on Psychology related events, trainings, seminars, etc. Visit this page for more info - https://www.facebook.com/psycheventsphilippines?ref=bookmarks

Majority has not participated in past surveys. Survey shows that respondents would check our FB Page on a regular or daily basis while close in  is the weekly visit to the site.

Majority are not willing to pay for an online services although closing in would be the response Maybe and Yes . Some are already subscribed to the other FB groups concerning  issues on RPm and RP.

FAQ Oath Taking for Psychometrician

We would like to provide the following info since we continue to receive inquiries on our FB page  about the Psychometrician Oath Taking for 2015.  So we do not repeat ourselves, check these FAQ. Information here is also based from our experience of the oath taking in 2014.

1) What is Psychometrician Oath taking?

It is when you raise your right hand, follow after a lead/oath administrator, stating your name, do a solemn pronouncement to affirm the truth,  pledge your commitment, vow to uphold or follow, adhere, subscribe to the principles, ethics,  policy, laws, other legal and regulations in the practice of your profession as Psychometrician and observe with the presence of witness/es, most of the time family members, friends, relatives and  the public.

2) Why do I have to take the oath?

It is required by the law or RA 10029 known as the Philippine Psychology Act of 2009, Art. VI, REGISTRATION, Section 20. Oath of Psychologists and Psychometricians. - All successful examines qualified for registration and all qualified applicants for registration without examination shall be required to take an oath to uphold the profession before any member of the Board or any officer of the Commission authorized to administer oaths, prior to entering into the practice of psychology or psychometrics in the Philippines.

3) When  and where is the oath  taking?

August 18, 2015- Waterfront Hotel, Cebu City (02:00 p.m.)

September 9, 2015, 01:00 p.m.,  Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), CCP Complex, Metro Manila

Tel. Nos.: (632) 524-4611 loc 560

4) How much is the ticket?

Early bird costs  PhP 1,000.00 until September 1, 2015 only.

Additional 200 pesos after the early-bird promo, and it might costs PhP 1,500 when purchased on the date of the oath taking. Oath taker pays the same price of ticket for guest/s and his/her own ticket (depending on the date when purchased).

You have to pay for your own ticket and the guests you are bringing to defray costs of venue rental and snacks.

Your ticket number ( assigned seat) most of the time corresponds to the guest ticket number so you can sit together with your guest/s.

5) Can I bring our clan to the oath taking?

Passers/oath takers are entitled to bring guests. You can bring your parents as your guests.  If you are bringing the whole clan be sure to pay for their tickets as well. Depending on the availability of tickets or the set quota by PRC/PAP then you can buy tickets as much funds you have.

Also,  if you do not have anyone (family, friends, relatives) to bring with you to the oath taking it is fine. You can attend the oath taking by yourself.

6) What to wear?

Barong (men) and Filipiniana (ladies)
For your guests (parents, friends, relatives) any decent clothes not necessarily your attire as oath taker.

7) Can I ask someone to purchase ticket for me and my family?

Yes just provide authorization letter and ID to the person you will request to buy your ticket/s.

8) What will I do if I miss/not available on the date of the oath taking?

By all means go to PRC and request a schedule to be given an oath.

9) Will I receive my license at the oath taking?

Yes, maybe. In last year's oath taking, license card and certificate were issued after the oath taking ceremonies. So ask your guest to fall in line ahead in your designated surname-letter alphabet at the registration area/entrance of the hall while just before the closing remarks/towards end of the program.
